Once again, Birmingham Royal Ballet bring their version of this festive favourite to the Royal Albert Hall. The Nutcracker, with its ravishing Tchaikovsky score, proved the quintessential Christmas treat for all the family.
We join Clara in the Victorian setting of her family home. As midnight strikes, the Christmas tree grows and grows, and Clara’s nutcracker doll and his army of toy soldiers come to life. Clara is swept away through a winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes to the magical kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Created especially for the Royal Albert Hall, this spectacular new staging featured Simon Callow as the voice of Clara’s mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer. 59 provided projection design to complement Dick Bird’s set design, conjuring up a spellbinding fantasy world, in which Birmingham Royal Ballet’s 70 superb dancers and a full symphony orchestra wove their magic.
