59 Studio has created and delivered the video design for a brand new production of Ragtime, reimagined by director Lear deBessonet for the Vivian Beaumont stage. The show is a musical adaptation of the 1975 novel by E.L. Doctorow that explores the pursuit of the American dream through three fictional families.
The characters include a white, wealthy mother and housewife, a Latvian immigrant who has just arrived in the USA and a Black pianist. As the story unfolds, these characters are joined by a selection of key historical figures, including Harry Houdini and Henry Ford.
Set in the 1900s, the families lead different lives, coming from a cross-section of 20th-century American society. Despite their differences and individual struggles, the three characters are brought together through a shared optimism and hope of fulfilling their dreams.
59 Studio has been honoured to work on a number of previous projects for Lincoln Center, and so we were excited to be a part of this production. The show officially opened on October 16th and runs for 14 weeks at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, Lincoln Center.
