For the third year in a row, 59 Studio worked with Media Arts Lab and Apple as projection designers for the festive display on the home of Apple’s UK headquarters, Battersea Power Station.
Having previously collaborated with David Hockney and Aardman, this year’s project took a different approach by showcasing Christmas tree designs created by both celebrities/ established artists and public submissions selected from the “Your Tree on Battersea” competition.
We brought these drawings to life in a single cohesive animated show, adding more trees as the countdown to Christmas continued. Because each submission uniquely reflects its artist, it was great fun to interpret the designs, giving them their own personality while maintaining an animation style that flowed and remained true to the original designs.
From 5pm to 10pm, from December 4th to December 24th, Battersea’s towers were illuminated with the animated designs, and the public were free to enjoy the festive display.
